I'd be very concerned about compatibility, adhesion, and similar issues,
if I were thinking about overlaying an oil finish with a polyurethane.
Why not just do one or the other? Linseed oil, properly done, produces a
durable, flexible finish that is water resistant. So does polyurethane.
So, for that matter, does tung oil, which I prefer very slightly over
linseed oil.
