[Ansteorra-archery] Marshal Sash Idea

How about trying something that I have been doing whenever I authorize any new Thrown Weapons Marshals, I give them a pendant that is made out of a piece of leather with the Thrown Weapons symbol on it. I still tell them though that they should have a Marshaling staff of some sort out on the range with them at all times though. I would be afraid of a sash getting caught up in my clothes whenever I was doing a throw and/or a shoot. Just my two cents!!!

For the Honor,
Lord Lochlan Shaw
Deputy Kingdom Missile Marshal for Thrown Weapons

I am in agreement with HL Cian, let those who wish to try it out do so.

I think the point to latch on to with this sash idea is that we are expanding the already existing precedent of the white/yellow or black/yellow stripes that generally signify a marshal on a rapier, chivalric, or melee field. ?Most non-archery marshals don't wear a full-out black and yellow tabbard. ?However, they do generally carry a striped staff which allows people to visually identify them as marshals (it also helps keeps fighters within the boundaries). ?Since archery marshals generally don't require a shepherd's hook, a visual indicator --the sash-- will be sufficient to expand the "I'm a marshal" precedent. ?Too, few people wear striped sashes. ?That in and of itself would set a marshal apart from the usual event or archery range attendee.

greetings
?
like many things in the sca, people will start off all
excited, then after a while , start getting bored, or tired, or half a hundred
other " reasons " .
( how many field heralds do you see wearing their tabbards
to make announcements across site throughout the day ? )
i know the north has a large percentage of archers that
are also marshals.
so i would wonder , how many of them would wear a marshals
tabbard all day ?? how many only in the morning before the days shooting started
?
and how many would " forget " them in camp, or at home,
etc. ( for what ever reason? )
?
and then you have multiple " other " questions to ask
about the tabbards ... will there be a specified " dealer " people have to buy
them from ?
will they all be identical ?
what materials should be used ?? too thick and you
roast in the ansteorran heat , too thin and they will fade , or tear easily
....
what dyes are to be used ? will they bleed all over
peoples garb?, from sweat or rain ??
just for a few.
?
and then , just because it seems odd to me, i have to
ask... since the sca is supposed to be a " social " group, where people learn by
speaking to others, and doing with others..
?
when someone approaches the ranges , do marshals no longer
greet them and ask if they would like their?equipment inspected
??
do mic's no longer step forth and announce the
rules?for each shoot ??
have the marshals all forgotten that we perform a?"
service " to the missile community , as well as our local and regional groups,
and yes even the kingdom and society? levels, since we help keep a large
number of people active in the sca. ??
?
ok, the old fart will climb down off his soap box, and go
back to school work.
not trying to psss anyone off, just expressing my opinion
, between rounds of networking fundamentals , and ubuntu : /
?
Be Safe , Be Happy, Have Fun
.
