ARN - Heavy Rapier Only?

I completely agree with Ansgar.

GOG is a tourney that was open to everyone. From what I've heard, it had a
wonderful atmosphere. This occurred with folks using foils and epees.

Heavy rapier looks neat and seems more fun for the audience, as they can
generally follow what's going on. I do believe that the period moves that will
get you killed by an epee-wielding opponent, are do-able with these blades. I
enjoy these blades, a lot. We'll probably eventually flow towards almost
exclusive use of Heavy Rapier, as we flowed from foil to epee. But being
exclusionary at this point, with a tourney that wasn't exclusionary in the past,
is not something that I can support. This rings of eliteism, which we should try
to avoid.

I've joked about it...but I can also see, "Period Helm tourneys" popping up this
way. Or, "Authentic Elizabethan Clothing" tourneys. Or, we could get really
accurate and period, and make all women who wish to fight, take on a male
personna. But, being THAT period and accurate isn't fun for many in the rapier
community. Some like it...some don't. Can we strive to keep a balance?

If someone wants to start a a prestigious, high personna, Heavy Rapier tourney,
that will turn into something like Guardian of the Gauntlet, I'll give them my
full support. But please don't use the non-exclusionary GoG as a vehicle for
promoting HR. Making "Other Activities" for those who want to use epee won't
lessen the problems that I have with it....
