Bring 'em all on!!! I plan on doing either 3 out of 5 total (all
styles/weapon combo's, etc.), or 2/3 in no more than 3 different
style/weapon combos. Keep in mind that I plan to be fighting in
all four tournaments on Friday. So this really will be a Gauntlet
for me.

I also will be furnishing cold water, ice cold wet washcloths, and
fruit for everyone who fights me (oranges most likely, though my
dear Brother will get pickles).

Simone, whoever you want to do your proxy is okay with me. And I
plan on asking the boy some pretty pointed questions when he comes
back from band camp.....

Corvin

hey Alessandro, I'll be busy taking the boy to the airport that

- Witam, czesc Panstvo!

I saw this 'gauntlet challenge', and wondered what the usual
protocol was for
one. We don't have anything like this up here in the Middle.

that would be the youth (he's going to band camp for a week) - the
big boy
will be at AAA so I suppose I could ask him to fight a proxy for
me instead.

Hmmmm . . . which would Corvin rather have? An extra fight with
Alessandro,
or an extra fight with Don Robert ? . . . I may have to split my
proxy
somehow . . . it *is* best 3 out of 5 isn't it?

regards,
Simone

Running a gauntlet is similsr to playing a prize. It's a tradition
of some of the Ansteorrans WS's that trace lineage through Don
Robert to have their new cadets face all comers on a given day
usually for three passes, though sometimes more. It is also
tradition for brother and sister cadets (or sometimes cousins) to
try to get proxies to make the new cadet's life hell and extend
the day's fighting.

Aeron doesn't really trace lineage through Robert, but he's
apparently picked up the habit and will have his new cadet run a
gauntlet.

... except that there's no prize.

The phrase is a confusion of two earlier phrases -- throwing a
gauntlet (a
medieval method of issuing a challenge) and running a
gantlet/gauntlet
(originally gantlope), which was a a 17th century military
punishment,
running between two lines of men with clubs, and which later came
to mean
any arranged ordeal.

Consider it a exhibition or general challenge, both known in 16th
century
England, and don't sweat the wording.
