ES - Elfsea Defender/rules/soccer/etc etc etc

My last two cents on this long dead thread,

I hope that their excellencies will keep this rule in force throughout
Elfsea events. The 'policy' is sound, make an attempt. I made an attempt
when I purchased the boots I wear to events. I didn't buy the ones that had
advertising for the company all along the side of it, I bought the less
expensive set that had a simple leather look. Is it perfect? No. Is it an
attempt? Yes. Their excellencies have stated this as of Springfaire that
this would be the case at Defender onward. And they have reminded people,
both through the posting to Elfsea list and the cross-posting to the Rapier
Net list, and one cross-posting to the Ansteorra list.

As to what 'happened at Pennsic' my information is very very third hand, but
tells the tale of a very wet listfield, prone to slipping in boots or even
normal tennis shoes, and some fighters from out of kingdom who competed in a
tournament with cleats. Later at the Ansteorran tournament any shoes that
weren't a reasonable attempt at period footwear were banned from the field
by the Queen. I believe it was at Defender last year that a gift from the
Crown of another Kingdom was presented to Her Majesty for having done this
to better the dream in her tournament. Again, very very third hand, I could
be very off base.

Who has no idea how he remembers all this.
