[Elfsea] Follow-up Notes: Officers Meeting 9/19/16

Greetings, Elfsea.

Please note the follow-up notes from our recent officers meeting.  It was a
fun meeting with lots of work--- and lots of laughter.  It was Lord
Franklin's last officers meeting as DFT Seneschal, and he will be very much
missed.

Mark your calendars to come to populace on Monday, September 26th, as we
will be discussing much of this information and putting the 2017 budget to
vote.   I hope to see each of you there!

Buffalo Wild Wings accepted the Barony.  We are *HTA-J (Team J)*.  In Nov.
2017, a check will be cut to the Barony for 10% of all purchases made as of
now--- where folks have mentioned Team J!  Valid at the Bedford location
only.  More details at the Populace Meeting on 9/26/16.

*BARONIAL COLLEGE  /  BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE / ARLINGTON LIBRARY DEMO*

*Baronial College to be held on October 1, 2016*:  Lady Astridr is putting
together her coordinator team.  Need Volunteers!  Gate Coordinator (Johanna
de Verona) has a few positions to fill. Baronial College tentative schedule
is on the Facebook page.

-       Bardic and A&S look robust



*Arlington Library Demo at the Levitt Pavilion to be held on October 22,
2016; *If interested in helping--- contact Baron Arthur at broboris at att.net;
needs gallon jugs for weights/water for popups.  Needs pop-ups. Sir Arthur
has nearly completed the kids scrolls for the Learning Quest.  Needs a head
count on tables and presentations/displays.   Library has sent out fliers
and web links to the SCA.  He is also speaking to Glaslyn, Wolfstar, and
others about joining in.



*Boy Scout Jamboree Demo to be held November 11-12, 2016*: If interested in
helping--- contact Lord Franklin Whitenhale.  Social Media Coordinator for
the Jamboree is Cat Gallon.

DFT Yule planning is going smoothly.  New item:  Jamie Snow (Steppes) will
be taking portraits.  Fees unknown at this time.



*DFT has a new Seneschal*, Lord Angus de Ruthven.  Franklin announced this
as his last officers meeting. Baron William warmly thanked Franklin for the
service and outstanding job as Seneschal.  Franklin gave the barony kudos
and stated that this was the most fulfilling job he’s had in the SCA.

*EXCHEQUER*

Barony is currently healthy with funds.  However, incoming funds have not
kept pace with expenditures.  2017 will show Elfsea keeping spending to a
minimum until we get more events income under our belt.

Officer budgets were presented, along with the 2017 philosophy.  All
budgets were pared down and the Barony has made moves such as lower-priced
storage, plans to move populace out of the library, etc. (Bare-bones).  Many
officers have $0 budgets to begin with but if something is needed, are
encouraged to approach the Finance Committee to ensure critical items are
purchased.

*The Baroness has been brainstorming with others for ideas on making money
through Kingdom event hosting.  Details will be discussed at populace
meeting.

*Elfsea needs to consider events outside of the big three, especially
adding things like Kingdom dance competitions, etc.

*From the Seneschal:  *All indications are that we may have a new Knight
Marshal.  We are waiting on official word from the Central Marshal.

Plans are to increase attendance; new location should help. So far, reviews
are good; ants are dead.

The new Nautilus Pursuivant, Publius Rutilius Caprarius, and Deputy, Connal
Ramsay, have cut a wide swath through the outstanding submissions to the
Elfsea Herald. This means that they can now start looking at new/more
recent submissions. *NOTE*:  Currently, no access to Herald’s email and the
NP is not on Facebook, although the Deputy is.  Deputy NP Connal Ramsay
encourages the populace to feel free to use him as a contact point, via
Facebook or personal e-mail account (spurinna318 at gmail.com). He will field
as many conflict checks and research requests as able. Any final or
semi-final submissions will be forwarded to the NP's personal e-mail, which
will not be published at this time in order to keep him to concentrate on
submissions.

Lady Liadan’s new work schedule is keeping her out of contact during the
daytime.  Be patient as emaails are being read.  Contact the Deputy MOAS,
Chelsea Elder, on FB if you have an urgent question.   MOAS & Deputy MOAS
are excited to prep for the A&S portion of the Boy Scout Jamboree Demo.

*MINISTER OF CHILDREN*

*Youth Academy *will be offered at the 1st Wednesday Bedford Boys Ranch
fighter practice of each month.

Starting Oct 5th, each class will run for approximately 30 mins (7:15-
7:45).   The classes will feature different hands- on activities each month
(frescos, minting coins, playthings, etc.)



*NOTES*: *This is not child care*.   All children MUST have a
responsible,  parent
or guardian within eye-sight  & and ear-shot*.   Parents will be required
to sign an agreement to this effect* and *remain available at all
times*.  Parents
are encouraged to join in.

The activities are generally aimed at youth 5-13 years, but all children
are welcome to participate, as long as parents remain with the younger (4
and under) during the class.



*SEEKING INSTRUCTORS*!!! If you are willing to teach a children’s academy
activity, please contact Lady Liaden at the MOC email.

In order to have many available volunteers, K-MOC and E-MOC are requesting
a few extra bodies go through the background check process to be on record
to help with MOC activities.  If interested, contact Lady Liaden.  This
will also help as she preps for Baronial College activities.

*STORAGE SHED MOVE & YEARLY INVENTORY**:*

We will begin at 9:00AM on Saturday at the old facility.  *Current facility*
is the Public Storage at 7601 Airport Freeway, Richland Hills, 76118.  NEEDED:
Trucks, hands, strong backs, counters, organizers, and scribes.  There is
plenty of work for all skillsets.  We are also tackling the yearly
inventory so we'll need help sorting and counting.

The *new facility* is The Best Little Warehouse in Texas located at 8900
Creek Run Rd Ft Worth, 76120.



*BARONIAL COLLEGE EXCITEMENT**:*

This Baronial College is looking to be well-attended and full of activities.
All classes are full, lots of interest in the Bardic--- and 7 Artisans
slated to compete for the title of Elfsea A&S Champion.

NOTE:  Lady Aaliz du Lac is requesting available bodies to serve as
entourage for Their Excellencies.  Baron William promises that it is not
scary and will mainly be attending classes with them.



*WORD FAME! WORD FAME! WORD FAME!**:*

The last issue of the Tidings had only the word fame offered by the B&B to
the populace members.  Please consider submitting your word fame for folks
doing all the things around the barony.  This helps TEs validate awards and
other accolades.



*THER EXCELLENCIES, THE EDUCATORS**:*

Baron William and Baroness Cassandra will be teaching the next Academie
class: CAMPING IN THE SCA, Monday, October 3rd, at the Elfsea Academie
located at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Bedford.  Whether novice or pro---
there will be something for you.



*BEGIN SEEKING NEW SITES TO BOOK IN ADVANCE*:

We are in competition with brides and weddings---- be scouting for sites
that can serve our needs and be booked a year or more in advance.  More
details at the populace meeting.

TOPIC: CAMPING IN THE SCA (Taught by TEs William & Cassandra)

 Garb is optional for attendees (but required for instructors).  There is
no requirement to buy food or drink to attend, but you cannot bring in
outside food/drink.

*OTHER NOTES:*

HE Baron Arthur is teaching a *How to Hide Mundanity* class at Elfsea
Baronial College and is looking for ideas, patterns, handouts, techniques,
displays, examples, and helpful hints to take into the all-day workshop.  HE
also mentioned that he is teaching a synopsized version of the Academie
Regalia class.
