Period charge, per the Pic Dic, and it has a different name from
fretty, so I would think that RfS X.4.e's period-charge clause would
call it clear.

I've never seen it in period armory. The Pic Dic says "Stangway's
Book, c. 1450, blazons it as 'square fretty' and assigns it to the
arms of Sir John Mandeville.", so the only citation it has has it in
attributed arms. It has to be pretty obscure to not get a mention
even in Parker's.

I recall hearing that "indented" is the usual period term for
/\/\/\/\/\/\, and that the distinction between "indented" and
"dancetty" (where "dancetty" has fewer and larger indents) is modern.
I think that "dancetty" would nowadays likely be reblazoned in the SCA
as "indented".

I don't recall period uses of them either, but I could have missed
them.

For common period-style straight lines, use indented.
