Agreed to all of the above and I have one more thing to add: NO FERTILIZER.
Not even a weak solution. I've tried test patches of both, with and
without, for saving mint and the fertilized stuff just dies. Dead
dead dead. Lacking any formal gardening training, I can't tell you
why this is. And I'm far enough away from college botany that I don't
remember much of why from that angle either. Perhaps someone else has
an explanation more technical than my feeble "tried it. don't work."

Of course, it could just be me, too. YMMV. :)
