Slightly off subject but here is what Dorothy Hartley says in Lost Country
Life about Hops:

"The wild hop was perhaps indigenous; the cultivated hop was
brought from the Low Countries during Henry VIII's reign. According to
Cxton and others, 'Bere was made in England by Byere brewers, who were
Flemynges and Duchemen'. It was not altogether approved, and the Royal
Household was warned not to add hops or brimstone to the royal brew. The
hop gives a good yellow dye and the small tender hop tops were boiled and
served with butter."

The section finishes with Tusser being quoted as
	"Turkies, herisies, hops and beer
All came to England in one year."
