Most of the truly "iccy" things in medicine probably aren't consumeable
by today's standards...:) besides the snails, dung, gall and earthworms,
ingesting stuff like wormwood (in quantity) etc. probably ain't so
great.

My personal all time favorite leechdom is Leechdoms, Wortcunning and
Starcraft by Thomas Cockayne. It's a great translation of three Anglo-
Saxon documents from before the Normans. Just looking at the book is
enough to cure what ails you! ;-c

I'm a brewer and am researching the use of wine in medicine..very often
herbs and "Iccys" were steeped in wine or ales and then administered to
the patient as a cureative. I'd love to hear from anyone off list if you
care to swap info.
