Another thing that helps with lactic acid buildup is a hot bath with a cup or
two of apple cider vinegar in it. I cannot say why what is essentially a
topical application of watered vinegar works, but it does. There IS a
difference between a hot bath with apple cider vinegar and just a hot bath.

The "knots" you describe are the results of what is known as an ischemic
condition. It means the muscle is starved for something, in this case oxygen.
Oxygen is what allows the calcium in the muscle fibers that caused them to
contract to return to the fiber's calcium receptors and allow that fiber to
relax, so getting oxygen to the muscles is important.

Actually, lactic acid buildup, among other things, damages the muscle fibers,
which causes yet another type of soreness. It does help to get the blood
flowing to the area to absorb and move out those toxins.

Just thought I'd clear that up <G>
