Dragons, popular garden plant.See Gerard's Herbal, pgs. 831 - 833.

Dracontium maius, Great Dragons:
Grows upright, a cubit and a half. Thick, round, smooth, sprinkled with
spots of divers colours like those of the adder or snake. Leaves are great
and wide, consisting of seven or more joined together in order, every one of
which is long and narrow, much like the leaves of the dock (this last is
misleading if you could see the picture). Smooth and slippery, out of the
top of the stalk grows a long hose or husk greater than that of the Cuckoo
Pint (wild type of arum lily that grow in English woods), of a greenish
colour without, and within crimson, which his petal is blackish, long thick,
and pointed like a horn.

Dracontium minus, Small Dragons:
The lesser dragon is like Aron (Arum) or Wakerobin, in leaves, hose or husk,
petal. Leaves are sprinkled with whitish spots. (Leaves are very different
from the Greater Dragon.

Dracunulus aquatius, Water Dragons:
Totally different again, growing in water.

Dragons were used to scour and clean the entrails, making especially "thick
and tough humours" thin.
Varying virtues listed for each kind of Dragon.

~ Isrith.
