[Loch-Ruadh] Heraldry / Armor Question

I am working on my heater shield and would like to paint a device on the 
front, but I have a question. Is it illegal / presumptous / discourteous / 
or otherwise wrong to paint an unregistered device onto the face of my 
shield? What about if I have not earned an AoA yet? Thanks in advance for
