You're welcome! We really like to talk about our interests, so you're just feeding us...

How old's your son? Is he interested in boffer, rapier, or don't know? We can get you contact info for those with similar aged children.

As for the name thing: Yes.

Oh, alright, I'll elaborate: No, you don't *ever* have to register a name, or a device. However, doing so is its own reward to some, helps avoid confusion to many (it helps eliminate 2 people with the exact same name or the same device / arms - the picture on a shield that uniquely identifies a person), and lends itself to some historical research and interest.

Some folks get stuck with a name (or just use their mundane one). Some carefully research the exact persona they're most interested in and choose an appropriate name. Some really like a particular time period, or country, or battle, or piece of literature, or... Some pick something that matches their clothes, or their armour, or... However, we *will* call you something. Here's your chance to influence what (somewhat) and to start on the never-ending (if you're doing it right) study of history which theoretically is our common interest (although there are some pretty cool parties, too).

Have we (I) squelched your inquisitiveness, yet? If not, you're going to fit right in :).

Thank you all so much for all the great info!! I really appreciate it. Ugh, it figures that the one Sunday I am actually busy is the one Sunday of the month that the archery guild meets... usually I am sitting around doing nothing on Sundays. Oh well, hopefully next month!

Thank you for the Youth links... I'm not sure what to do there. I'm already subscribed to the youth combat list, but there haven't been any messages, and it would be hard enough to drive all that way to U of H, only to find out there weren't any other children in my son's age division there.

I'm still kinda confused on the name issue... it seems like a much bigger hassle than I thought, what are the benefits? Do most people register their names, or just use whatever name they have chosen and not worry about it?

And I didn't mean to stir up such a controversy with the Loch Soilleir pronunciation thing... *laughs* Sorry! :-)

~Juliana~
