[NR] Thoughts on Med Fair

Greetings Unto the Lists, Auntie Dwen Here:

Due to circumstances beyond our control (that would be the Enid Park
folk and the National Chataqua Movement) this year's Medieval/Renaissance
Garden Faire in Government Springs Park in Enid has been cancelled. We have
an agreement with our local Gas Light Theater that produces Shakespere in
the Park and a committment to try again next year. Look for our Glorious
Return complete with Shakespere and vendors at the end of June, 2003.

As we will not be hosting our own MedFaire this year, I strongly
encourage all Wastelanders and friends of the Wastelands to participate
fully in the Namron Medieval Faire. Although 100 miles away, we do well to
remember that it was Johann and Lance attending MedFaire 11 years ago that
started our Shire. They visited with Uriah Wolfstar and were hooked. They
remembered the experience with such fondness that they came to Wiesenfeuer's
Yule Revel that year where they met Sa'adia, Juan, Adriellen and me. The
rest, as they say, is history. Hey, I even got a husband thanks to
MedFaire!

People from all over the state come to this event and it is a wonderful
opportunity to let them know that they can have this much fun in their own
back yard! I intend to attend and work on scroll painting (which is usually
difficult in the inevitable wind and rain that seems to accompany the
MedFaire). Should be fun.

I am amused to hear the grousing about not getting to fight enough. I
have never heard of a MedFaire where those who brought their armor felt they
didn't get enough. Seems to me that the most frequent complaint of the past
is, "Geeze, there weren't enough fighters there and I had to fight soooo
much over the three days I can't move!" Just goes to show you *can't*
please all the people all the time--or some of them at all.

For myself, I plan to be there with my lord husband (assuming he's not
on call) and having a good time. It's amazing how often planning on having
a good time is enough to make it happen!

Brightest Blessings,

Baroness Ceridwen Hyrllannerk, OP
Elder, House Wizard's Keep (which would never have existed had
Malaki and Elric not attended one of the first Med Faires and learned
about the SCA!)
