online sources

The Mannings on Pennsylvania
http://www.the-mannings.com/
I've bought from them both online and in person. The site is not much for pictures but the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

the Woolery in North Carolina
http://www.woolery.com/
I've bought from them online and had no problems.

The Bellwether

I bought nalbinding books here but they also carry fiber and tools

I don't know of any local shops yet. I would be grateful to hear of some.

The xxx may be pencil roving but you can also split a normal sliver ( Sliver is a washed and carded wool that is drawn into a continuous strand where all the fibers are parallel.) most commercial roving comes in sliver form.

Is she by any chance reading back issues of SpinOff?
http://www.interweave.com/spin/default.asp
and has she discovered the HistoricKnit yahoogroup yet?

I was, also, at Fair of the Harvest and had a very good time

So, on that... a monster has been created. A monster who lived in France, speaks French, was a college prof, and has had a life long love affair with crochet, knitting, embroidery, lots of other fiber stuff and RESEARCH! Since FoTH she has learned lots and lots about Medieval knitting (Did you know that Eleanor of Toledos knitted lace stockings are legendary?).

She is now wanting to make felted soap. Does anyone know where she might be able to find roving for wool soap? Oh and "I need some carded wool xxx (forgot the word!) rather than yarn" for knitting the children tunics for cold weather.

Any assistance will be appreciated-- at least she has stopped calling it "Real-Live-D&D!"
