RF - Awards?

I originally started to answer short and sweet... well, didn't
end up that way... oh well!
HE Chrystal

Raven's Heart:
Registered charter, insignia and scroll text. Insignia is worn as
a medallion. Only consulting form of an order the Barony has.
Service to Barony, carries AoA, one way to look at it is it does
for the Barony what a Comet does for a Shire...recognition for
unquestionable service to that particular group that carries an AoA... that
is one of many layers of explaination for this award, depends on what it
means to you after that basic foundation definition. I.E., another way it
can be like the way Marius
described it:
"It goes much deeper than that. It has to do with a true love of
the barony itself ...<snipped>...Just hard work will not earn it.
A proven unfailing love to our barony is not the only thing needed
to win this award, but it is required."

Order of the Talon:
It does have scroll text, the insignia has not yet been registered
as a badge- though I am not sure on that point, maybe it is in the herald's
files? (Sir Timo has the files); Insignia has been
discussed and no final product produced as of yet (one talon claw with one
drop of blood from it). Non-armigous recognition in the fighting field(s)-
(armored, rapier, archery) through "chivalric conduct, prowess on the field of
Battle, & for honorably
representing the King's Barony of Raven's Fort on the Tournament Circuit..."
and the scroll text goes on to say "you are charged to continue your
development as a fighter and to always uphold the
honor of Raven's Fort". This is roughly what we may consider basing the A&S
local award on (for A&S purposes of course).
That's a different bag-o-beans... more on that one later...

Gilded Scallop:
This award was originated by HE Alix de Curci, the founding Baroness.
Insignia was a blue/gold inkle ribbon with a scallop pin worn on
right shoulder. It was from her personally (non-armigous), it does have
scroll text. By it being presented only from her, her idea was to pass it on
to numerous individuals that really put forth an
effort towards the Barony and it was her way of saying - thank you,
I appreciate and see what you are doing...etc. When David and I stepped up,
I asked her if I may include the Baron in on it and switch the names around
(Baroness before Baron), she said OK. We did that for the first few years,
but later David felt it should go back to being only from the Baroness. So
it went back to the original style use of the award. The Baron has been
working on a similar presentation from him/the Baron.

Gilded Serpent:
This too has scroll text. Insignia (2)is purple/red inkle ribbon
worn on right shoulder with a gilded serpent AND a golden gilded snake
(originally a belt) worn on right shoulder.
I retired/altered" (not officially, but I no longer use it) the Gilded
Scallop and switched it to the Gilded Serpent, because I
felt it better represented me (I have raised snakes/reptiles & appreciate
them). I charge whomever steps up after me to do like
wise and change it into something that they can connect/work with
(so to speak). I like to let the people wear it for about a year
(or in TwinCedars case - 2 years, I wore Alix's for about that
long...). I treat it the same as Alix's original idea....

As of 9-14-99 the total is still 3 awards the Barony has in play
now. We are looking into adding an A&S local recognition award
(non-consulting order like the Talon). Hope this helps... We are
open to input as always... Jacinth you have my permission to
reprint this in the Quoth the Raven if you like.

In Service,
HE Chrystal

Subject: RF - Awards?

You know, we have been kicking this around for a while but I
thought talking about it a little more would clarify things
for me (and perhaps make a nice article for the Quoth). Not
to mention edify those who are thinking about the non-armigerous awards we
have been considering.

Correct me if I am wrong, but We have historically had
approximately 3 awards as a Barony?

Order of the Raven's Heart
Order of the Talon
Gilded Scallop (is this all there was to it?)-
The scallop, was it just a personal thing for Alix (not really Baronial), or
was it formalized with a charter and everything?
I seem to recall it being treated like an official award,
but hey... I can be wrong.

What are/were the requirements for each, and where can I
find the texts for each of these?

Are there badges for all of them?

I'm so fardeiget... Discuss among yourselves... ;)

-J.
