You mix some dishwashing liquid in a cup of water and
stir until it bubbles well.  Apply to all of the joints
or fittings of the gas pipes.  You can test the entire
length of the pipe if you suspect a leak.  Connect up
to gas.  If there is a leak in a pipe it will blow a
visible bubble.  You get leaks around couplings.  I
have never had the pipe itself to leak unless it was
corroded beyond recognition.  In that case you replace
it anyway.
