It's tough to do, but try to read the untranslated version just to preserve the rhyme and meter.  The actual 'tale' starts at line 3187.  I was fortunate to study Chaucer in college and had a prof who could read aloud the period pronunciation.  It was odd, sorta like listening to Kiwi's dialect when he first got here.  These days he can drawl with the best of us.....  :)
