The dye from the berries is pretty permanent.  OldMr.Peck (one word in
our family) was a cabinet maker who made a child's rocking chair for
Great Aunt Kathryn, sometime around 1880.  He stained it with pokeberry
juice.  It has been refinished a number of times, with and without paint,
and paint remover, and you can still see magenta in cracks in the wood.

If dyers experiment with it, it should produce lovely burgundy/magenta
colors, but don't do it in any container that won't accept bleach to
clean it.

Dolls like it on their plates for tea parties under the hydrangea bushes.
