I like windows and lots of natural light. Overhead cabinetry blocks a lot
of light, both natural and artificial, and I have yet to see under the
cabinet lighting I really like, although the new low power halogens come
close.

If anything is taller than the space between the counter top and the bottom
of the cabinet, you can't use the counter.

The height and depth of most cabinets make much of the space difficult to
use and finding things in the cabinets a chore. I much prefer a floor to
ceiling pantry cabinet with hinged shelving which opens out to reveal the
fixed shelving. It uses less space and makes the contents more accessible
than overhead cabinets.

With adequate pantry space, wall racks and drawers to hold small,
constant-use items make a lot more sense to me than clunky cabinets.
