In my case, it serves as a familiar scenario for a cooking contest. My
not-so-secret agenda is to make this arts contest as interesting and exciting to
the average Society member as the fighting is.

To wit: this past weekend, listee THL Mairin Ben Dhiarmait and Duchess Natalya
de Foix fought triple-digit temperatures, a plague of wasps and wussing-out
volunteers to produce fabulous Italian and Asian cuisine and a near-tie of 3 to 2
in favor of the Duchess. Another listee, Lord Aeduin of Skye, was one of
Natalya's "iron sous-chefs" but helped out Mairin as well as time allowed.
Raffle ticket sales were brisk, and more than covered the expenses of the
contest. Kingdom officers and newcomers alike were amongst the lucky winners who
got to sample and judge this battle of supreme cuisine. Photos should be up soon
on the Barony of Altavia's web page.

Next year, we cook indoors!

Selene, Caid
