Because pickles come in jars? ;-)

A couple of reasons. I am trying my darndest to not have to worry about
ice this year--an amazingly busy schedule this year not limited to
retinue, virgin-shepherding duties, health issues, and being in N19--and
even if it's pickled the other half of the meal plan will insist on
chilling it. His grandfather is a food toxicologist and he's utterly
paranoid about anything edible.

Also, I just got a pressure canner (I was at Wally's getting jar lids, it
called to me) and am trying to come up with stuff to can. ;-)

Five jars of stew, one didn't seal. Sigh. Oh, well. Stew for dinner
tonight. ;-)
