Lunch is generally budgeted into the event budget same as other places.
But we usually charge for lunch, be it Ploughman's, or something a
little more complex.

When I started in the sca, the lunch game here was more or less
"groceries to fill the masses" and not really regarded as a venue for
cooks. Easy, simple, and cheap was the motto of lunch doers.

Slowly over time I would like to say that I had a hand (read: in my
Kingdom only) in making Cooks realize that this was an opportunity just
waiting to be taken advantage of. I have seen more people taking this
idea in hand and running with it.

Since we dont have events whereby they last whole weekends (except
camping events where everyone cooks for themselves anyway) we wouldnt
include brekkie and lunch into the site fee but rather charge for lunch
and thus giving BACK the monies doled out for lunch from the event
budget. Same as supper feasts.

Having said that, I should note that I have also seen a trend whereby
there ARE taverns now at camping events for those not wishing to cook
their own meals. Mostly what I have seen though is non-period food being
offered. I am cooking for one of these evening meals (this should be
interesting, its a 6 hour drive from here), and have submitted a period
feast for that nights dinner to the Tavern Coordinator. He has told me
that no one else has submitted anything even remotely considered period,
and he is very happy that I did.

There are as many ways to price/serve lunch as there are Cantons in the
Knowne World, and I find I like this one the best.

Hope this helps.
