I grow -Chrysanthemum parthenium- for this purpose. I use the dry powdered
flowers as insect dust. It kills insect on contact and is harmless to mammals
and birds. I also hang branches of dried bay and/or basil in the pantry to
keep the buggies out of the dry goods.
