I'll explain, if Anahita hasn't yet! :-) The pun taxes are a tradition of the College of Saint Katherine: if you make a pun, you have to pay a penny as, er, pun-ishment. (Sorry, I couldn't help it <g>.) Some people just save themselves the trouble and pay a flat rate of a dollar for the course of a weekend event ;-) Anahita sometimes camps with us, and can pun with the best of 'em.

I'll also take this opportunity to introduce myself, if I may - I just signed onto the list yesterday, and have already seen plenty to get me interested. (Rabbits...wow.) I am a student at the aforementioned St Katherine's College (mka UC Berkeley), and this is the start of my 3rd year in the SCA. I was interested in the history of cooking long before I knew the SCA existed; I come from a family of exceptionally talented cooks, and grew up with exposure to many different cultures and cuisines (as well an astounding cookbook collection). I have been slowly working on building up a repertoire of period recipes. using mostly online sources - I've had no luck finding period cookery books in stores, but maybe I've been looking in the wrong places. I'm hoping this list will prove a good resource, too. :)
