I have a book on Thai cooking where the author describes going to a number
of Thai folks and asking what their favorite dishes were. He asked a couple
of teenage girls and one said "Panang Nua" and the other said, "You can't
pick Panang Nua, that's EVERYBODY'S favorite, you have to pick something
else!"

So.... Panang Nua. It's the best.

If you like things that are less sweet, a good appetizer is Larb. It's a
diced meat (usually chicken?) dish seasoned with spices and lime juice -- a
little sour, a little hot, very good.
