The HoneyBaked Ham® Story One Ham at a Time
Been reading the archive while on vacation,
and despite all the postings on the spiral cut
hams, no one has yet mentioned that the process
was patented and there have been lawsuits galore
over the years... It's highly competitive yet...

from the Honey Baked website---
It was 1957 when Harry J. Hoenselaar opened the
first HoneyBaked Ham Company® store in Detroit,
Michigan. He knew he had something special. An idea
for developing a unique curing and cooking procedure
 for the preparation of a one-of-a-kind, high-quality bone-in
smoked ham. In addition, Harry had invented the final touch to his
unique gourmet ham... the spiral-slicing process. Thus the advent
 of The Authentic HoneyBaked Ham® . www.honeybaked.com

and from
http://www.loganfarms.com/patents.html comes the story
of what is now Logan Farms Honey Glazed Hams® which has developed
the technology to spiral slice boneless meats, so yes this
can be done.

So the real tale of these hams lies in technology and patents.

Happy April First..
