Just remember, Good Doctor, that Vehling was a food writer.  His redactions often are not only not true to the original, sometimes they make a sharp right turn somewhere.  If your latin is good (and it should be much better than mine) you can mine it for the original recipes, but don't count on his redactions.

Speaking of basics... I recently acquired the Vehling Apicius (thanks
Devra!), "Sallets Humbles and Shrewsbury Cakes" and "Liber de arte
coquinaria". I already had Redon's "Medieval Kitchen" and Hieatt's "Pleyn
Delit". I have Mistress Jaelle's booklist - has she updated it recently with
new publications? If not, will she? If not, will someone else?
