I wouldn't say "reserved" but certainly "commonly worn by". You
certainly see quite a lot of gay/lesbian/bi/etc people wearing clerical
or monastic garb. I think it's mostly just a bit of a joke in the
"nudge nudge, wink wink, wonder what those nuns get up to behind the
convent walls, eh?" vein.
