Hullo, the list!

Sorry about the bandwidth, but there's been enough discussion of
things like ibuprofen that I felt there might be sufficient interest
in this:

It details a serious scientific study which appears to prove pretty
conclusively that, when you've had three or more molars yanked from
your jaw with pliers, it is better to take something for pain _other_
than a sugar-based placebo. And, it works faster, too! They
specifically comment on the unsatisfactory speed the placebo requires
to work. Four out of five dentists surveyed recommend _not_ using a
placebo for traumatic mouth injury...
