Try it in my time period!! Very few if any written evidence but lots from
the archeological record. The viking ate rowan the saxon didn't we can tell
from the toilet pits!  There was a beef type stew served from this pot
containing barley, beer, corrots and herbs.
they had bread raised by beer or sour dough
Then extrapolate out the recipies.
I would love some written recipies from the 900-1066 period.
