[Sca-cooks] Feast service, was Working for Adamantius....

Unfortunately, here in Dun Carraig, we have a very low attendance at our
local events. I don't know why, but it appears that folks think it's just
too much trouble...or it's too far to come to our events, but we just don't
get people out. It may even be the events of last fall, but our problems
have existed since long before that time.

Because of this, in order to be able to break even on our events, the only
"freebies" are the Autocrat and the Head Cook. Even our kitchen staff pay
for the feast. And we are not alone. I've paid onboard fees for most, if
not all, of the events I've attended, including one where I mentored the
cook and stayed in the kitchen not only all day, but all during the feast,
for another barony! I think I've paid for more feasts I've not eaten than I
want to think about. This is just the way it is in most of Atlantia.

So far, I've always been able to comp the cooks and
servers at least their feast tickets. If I'm also in
charge of the hall, I'll try to comp their gate fees
as well. So far, my most expensive feast cost $525.00
to feed 120 people, 20 of whom were comped. We
charged $10.00 per head for the feast tickets. The
profit made on the feast made up for the loss we took
on the hall.

I have a "dream feast" planned, though, that is going
to require a lot more careful planning and carefully
choreographed service. It's based Philip the Good's
Feast of the Pheasant. Since the spectacle and
presentation are so important, I'm going to need a
crew of servers, probably trained in advance. I'm not
sure how well I can actually pull this off, but it's a
nice dream for now.
