I agree. For the fighter with a normal metabolism, they will benefit
more from a high complex carbohydrate meal the _night before_. Dumping
in a bunch of fats, proteins, and sugars when they start to wear out
(probably early from not eating a starchy dinner Friday night) is like
putting in antifreeze and oil only after your car overheats at the end
of that 300 mile drive, and driving past that filling station when you
were running low, planning on using that case of emergency fuel in the
trunk if you run out before the next station. Yeah, it works. Just not
as well.

And dehydration makes the body run inefficiently, making the person feel
tired and weak, and irrational in their thinking. It works a lot like
blood loss, as there is less fluid in the body's system. A lot of
fighters might be surprised how less hungry they'd feel if they had
drank enough water _every day_ before the tournement, and more during
it.
