I think that we sometimes all forget that. We also forget how easily one
person's behavior can color our perception of an entire group. I know that
my first response to a recent posting about our local cooks guild was to puff
up and DEMAND to know who had made the snotty statement that we don't do
feasts and then pronounce how wrong they were (luckily I slept on it before
replying).

Then I remembered that we have people not paragons in our organization.
People tend to have bad days and when they do they can say the wrong thing in
the wrong way. Unfortunately that is usually the statement that is remembered
and repeated. Which is why I always discount what is said at least 50% and
then verify the other 50% before either repeating it or taking it to heart.
This is especially true if it is negative. (What is that old phrase "Trust
but verify")
