OK, Huette is asking for me.

I have Master Atar's, already posted him, and I'm
having Huette ask as a back-up from someone he knows.

Please do- the more the merrier. If we start getting
some of the smiths I'm trying for, I might think about
backing out of teaching, and spend the whole event
picking folks' brains ;-)

Thanks, Arte. I'll make Master Oso the same offer I'm
making to Master Atar and the mundane smiths I'm
trying to get involved- our Household will help with
camping equipment and such, since they're coming from
so far away, and generally offer our hospitality.

The information follows- Olaf of Trollhiemsfjord is

All I'm trying to do is support a really good idea ;-)

#################################################

Greetings,

Last night I received the final approval for an
event I have been wanting to put on for
years. What I would like to have is they widest range
of classes possible. To this end I am
looking for people to teach classes from all over the
East Kingdom. So if you are interested
or know some one who you think should teach a class
please contact me off list.

A formal event announcement will be forthcoming
shortly.

YIS,

Olaf of Trollhiemsfjord

Metal Smith's Symposium

The event is the fourth, though sixth of Oct.
2002. It will be at Camp Blanchard in Sutton, MA in
cooperation between the Canton of Aschehyrst & the
Shire of Quintavia. This is the site that is used for
Boredom War.

Classes:

The plan is to have as many people learning by
doing as possible. I plan to have at least four
tracks that are
running more or less concurrently:

One that starts with iron ore & building a
bloomery then finishes with the working of the iron
that has
been smelted.

One that starts with a piece of soapstone &
proceeds through to a finished piece of pewter
jewelry.

One that starts with a piece of wax & ends
with a piece of silver jewelry.

One would be building the tools to do period
metal smithing made of both wood & metal. Such as
bellows, tongs, hammers, drills & maybe an anvil.

What I would like from prospective teachers is the
following: A short resume of experience of why they
are
qualified to teach their class/classes; a class
description including how long, how many people the
class
is limited to, what tools or equipment the student
should bring, what level of experience the students
should
have (rank beginner, experienced beginner, moderately
experienced or advanced), which days/times are they
are
available to teach, how many times they are willing to
teach each class, if the class will be using mostly
period
methods or more modern methods & a budget of materials
that will be needed. This information will be used
to make up the class schedule & advertising for the
event.
Class size will be limited by each instructor
to ensure that everyone gets to do as much hands on
work as
possible. We will have access to up to 5 indoor class
areas if we can fill the teaching roster & have enough
students to justify using all the space. Other
subjects that are appropriate to this event would be:
Pattern
welded blades; Goldsmithing; Armoring; Making period
wood working tools; Copper smithing; Tin smithing;
coin making; Bead Making; Period Lapidary work & any
other related subjects we can find teachers for.

Schedule:
This is a preliminary schedule, it is not set in
stone. If we can not get enough Teachers & Students
to fill the
scheduled class hours we will end earlier on Sunday.
It is planed that most beginners classes will be held
on
Saturday.
    Friday: Site opens at Noon.
                      Class on building Bloomery
starts at 2 PM continues until completed.
                       Travelers Repast served at 7
PM.
    Saturday: Breakfast 7-8 AM.
                       Classes.
                       Lunch 2-3 PM.
                       Classes.
                       Classes end at 7:30 PM
                        Feast 8-10
    Sunday: Breakfast 7-8 AM.
                       Classes
                       Lunch 12-1 PM.
                       Classes end at 3 PM
                        Cleanup starts at 3 PM
                        Site closes at 5 PM
