It isn't that cast iron pots themselves weren't made within the SCA
period. It is that the technology that makes them ubiquitous is later
(almost 18thC, if I recall correctly).

Also, my 19thC cast iron pots have a vastly different "heft" than my
modern ones. They are lighter, have thinner walls, and the broken ones
I've seen have a much finer "grain" than modern pots.
