   Those web sites are very cool!  Unfortunately, I couldn't tell which
plant most closely resembled the plants (long chopped down and *Finally*
gone for the year!) in the back yard.  If the plant you're referring to
often shows up with soybeans, then it's likely that is what it is, as
there are numerous soybean fields (almost) within spittin' distance.  But
I wouldn't experiment with the roots without a knowledgeable plant person
about.
