You mentioned ancestors in the UK. Were any of them Scots? I ask
because I understand "turnip" is the standard name for rutabaga in
Scotland, and the use of "bashed" seems to kind of support the idea.
The bashed neeps eaten with things like haggis usually _are_ yellow
turnips, I gather.
I like parsnips and carrots done that way.
