Actually, Szlivovitz is originally Slovak, but yes, you can also buy
it in Hungary.
Another "typical" drink is the UNICUM balsam/liqueur (sold in dark round
bottles with a red cross on them). If you never tasted it, ask for a
rather small amount, for one may strongly dislike it (like my family)
or love it (like my boyfriend). But then, the latter was well
accustomed with such Central-European specialties as Becherovka...

You can also ask for a *real* salami stick, and a loaf of real Hungarian
bread (keeps fresh for at least a week).

At the end of November they usually begin with Christmas fairs, which
means a lot of traditional goodies are sold everywhere, like all sort
of ornamented gingerbread or candies. But those are, again, commonly
Central Europe.

VC> It seems that a good friend of mine is going to Hungary at the end of
VC> November. Anyone know of any Hungarian goodies I should ask him to bring
VC> back?

VC> So far I can only think of two things:

VC> Szeged paprika in various grades
VC> A bottle of slivovitz from his Crazy Uncle Arpad's distillery

VC> Anything else?

VC> Vicente
