Sorry to disagree with you, but the reports coming out of the medical
literature are that the hand goo is BETTER than handwashing at killing
buggies. The problem for most medical personnel is that the alcohol is hell
on the skin, and you can't realistically use it 60- or 70-odd times each
day. And yes, it will impart off flavors to food if you're sticking your
fingers in it - which you shouldn't be doing without gloves anyway.
