[Sca-cooks] Trying again

'Lainie,

I was diagnosed with "Stress-Induced Asthma" in 1994, shortly after my
fortieth birthday. I had -never- had asthma as a kid, but in the early
nineties started developing a nasty sinus problem and breathing problems
every fall. It got so predictable I'd call up my doctor and say "I have
my November sinus infection" and she'd call the prescription in. Now,
before you think I over used antibiotics, Selene will tell you that I
-won't- take them unless it's absolutely necessary and there's no other
way to beat the infection becuase my body's systems aren't responding.
They ran me through all sorts of allergy tests to see what was
triggering the asthma, and couldn't find a direct match. I do know they
got worse when my office moved to a building with one of those
environmental systems that didn't allow you to open windows so every
breath you took was filtered through everyone else's exhalations.

However, I may agree with you about the systemic over-processing of
foods, and the damage it may be doing to our kids. One doctor I know
points out that the myriad of 'little' infections children get help them
to build immunities to environmental triggers for infection, and that
the constant use of the anti-biotics short-circuits that process.

OBFOOD: So, what foods help -develop- the immune system, and did our
ancestors try to express these things by use of the 'humours'?
