I think the premise that SCA children would not like period food is erroneous to start with.  I know that my granchildren would be highly offended if I were to prevent them from eating what the big people eat.  I do carry around snacks for them, because they tend to be a bit cranky if they have to wait until after court to eat, but it's not something the event staff should have to provide.
And I don't cater to people with allergies or to vegetarians, except to provide enough variety that they can pick and choose.
