That is the Latin scientific name rather than the Latin.  The genus is
Corylus rather than Cirylus and, IIRC, the trailing L. denotes the Linnean
taxonomy.

In Latin, the hazel tree is "corylus."  The hazelnut would probably be
something on the order of "nux coryli," although I may be incorrect on the
latter as my grasp of Latin is rudimentary in the extreme.

I believe Platina lists hazelnuts.  When I come across my copy I'll check
his text.
