I was able to go straight to it, and unfortunately all it says is "First made 
by French nuns in the early14th century", with no indication of where that 
little tidbit of information might have come from.  The recipe is listed as 
"adapted from Hubert Keller, Chef/Owner, Fleur de Lys Restaurant, San Francisco" 
and the source is listed as "Williams-Sonoma".  As the recipe given contains 
both vanilla beans and dark rum, neither of which were known in France in the 
14th century, we are clearly not dealing with a pretty straight carryover recipe 
like macaroni and cheese.
