May I also suggest Ras's (well, I saw him make it) *chicken on a sting*
Truss up the chicken with butcher's string and hang it from the crane, or
flew (sp)  knob.  Suspend over a fire.  Wind up the chicken and let it cook
as it unwinds. Have the girls take turns winding up the chicken again and
again until it is done.... It takes a while, but it looks a good
presentation,.

Also, you could give them hunks of various colored marzipan and let them
make illusion food.....
