Have you washed your hands recently?
Wet hands with water as hot as you can stand, then spend 20 seconds with
soap, scrubbing in-between your fingers, underneath your fingernails, the
back of the hands and wrists. Dry with a one-use towel or air dryer. (20
seconds is the Happy Birthday Song twice, or the ABC's song once)

National Handwashing Awareness Week, December 5 –
11, 2004

Promote proper handwashing to prevent the spread of disease. Whether you
are at home, at work, or at school, handwashing is one of the most important
things you can do to keep from getting
sick and spreading germs to others, according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention.

Talk to your friends and family and tell them about the importance of
frequent and thorough handwashing. Due to the current influenza vaccination
shortage, the handwashing message is especially important in order to reduce
the spread of influenza. Also, remind people to keep their hands away from
their faces, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and to stay home when
they are sick.

The following is a list of handwashing educational materials available on
the Internet.
