Reminds me of  Garrison Keillor story- couple laying in bed (IIRC it was 
the Bunsens), suddenly the man gets up, grabs the rifle next to the open 
window, and fires it. The wife wakes up, understandably frightened. 
"Burglars!" the reply comes back "Nope. Mergansers."
