     No, it's not a typo.  It's the normal problem with transliteration from 
one alphabet to another. (Think of Tschikovski). Both Yiddish and Hebrew 
(where the word derives) are written in the Hebrew alphabet, where (for grownups) 
vowels aren't normally written. You deduce which word it is by mag...um, the 
consonants and such like. (Don't look at me - I was the worst Hebrew student 
they'd ever seen in my Religious Training classes.)  Either version would be 
correct.

And don't let's get into the fact that a vowel dot turns V into B...
