[Sca-cooks] invalid food

Oh, dear!

I'm sure chicken soup has occurred to you - it's such a classic, and
good. Other soups might go down well. Broth.

Classics in my family were baked custards, and pudding slides down
easily, if dairy isn't an issue - I know it might be. Custard has egg as
well - good protein.

Glad he has the IV, but even so, liquids can help. If he'll take them.
Juice? If he's coughing, OJ might irritate his throat, but apple?

Come to think of it, if he's coughing (I did, when I had pneumonia, but
not everyone does) the nugget might have felt scratchy. Something soft
and smooth. Fruit juice gelatin? Jello has nothing but sugar, but that
and liquid are better than nothing, in this case... and it can feel
good. (And hospitals usually provide it - you've probably tried, already.)

Applesauce?

Cream of wheat or oatmeal, if he likes it?

Eggs? Scrambled? They're very traditional for this. (And I'm trying to
think of things you can get in or near the hospital...)

Please let us know how he does!

They've got him on IV fluids, but he only weighed 41 lbs when he went in yesterday, and he's dropped another pound and a half overnight. Any suggestions on what might tempt him to eat? We've offered ice cream and all his favorite foods. He said he'd eat some chicken nuggets, so I went ten miles to the nearest Mickey D's, and he ate half of one. He loves root beer, but he won't even taste one. I'm about at the end of my wits.
